Delivery charge after the order — add it, then send the final bill

For heavy or far-away orders: customers order without a delivery charge, you add it on the order and send the final bill on WhatsApp — they confirm it or pay by link.

Some delivery charges can only be worked out after you see the order — a sofa, a fridge, 40 bags of cement, an address far outside town. Turn on Shop confirms the order first in Shipping & Delivery and choose Only the delivery charge. Customers then see Delivery charge: Added after you order at checkout and place the order without it. You open the order, type the delivery charge, and send the final bill on WhatsApp. The customer confirms it (cash on delivery) or pays it from the link.

When to use it

Every order is heavy or bulky (furniture, building material, machines)Turn it on for every delivery order.
Only a few products are hard to price (a big appliance in a normal shop)Turn it on for products you choose, then tick those products.
You can price delivery by area or by distanceLeave this off — use delivery zones or the fee by distance; customers see the exact charge at checkout.
You also need to check the stock, or say when it will arrive, before anyone paysChoose The whole order instead — see Shop confirms the order first.

Need to check the stock and the address too, before the customer pays anything? That is the other level of the same setting — Shop confirms the order first.

Turn it on

1

Open Shipping & Delivery

In the dashboard menu open Delivery → Shipping (the page is called Shipping & Delivery). The card Shop confirms the order first is near the top. Switch it on, and under What do you check before the customer pays? choose Only the delivery charge.

2

Choose which orders

Every delivery order, or only orders with products I choose. For the second one, open each product → Shipping Override and tick Orders with this product wait for your confirmation. If an order has any of those products, you add one delivery charge for the whole order.

3

Choose how customers can pay

  • Cash on delivery — they pay everything (items + delivery) when the order arrives. Your bill asks them to confirm first.
  • Pay after you confirm — they place the order now and pay the final bill from your link, online or by UPI.
  • Pay for the items online now, the delivery charge later — they pay for the items at checkout; you send a link for just the delivery charge, or the courier collects it.

An option only shows at checkout when your shop can take it: cash on delivery needs Cash on Delivery switched on, pay after you confirm needs a payment gateway or your UPI ID, and paying for the items now needs a payment gateway (see Payments setup).

4

Write your message (optional) and Save

Customers read your message at checkout. A range helps them decide — for example “Delivery in Pune: usually ₹100–₹400”. Leave it empty to use our standard sentence.

Store pickup orders and free-delivery coupons are never affected. Your delivery areas still decide where you deliver — only the charge waits. Part payment (Partial COD) and UPI-screenshot payments are not offered for these orders, because the amount is not final until you add the delivery charge.

What the customer sees at checkout

  • The delivery line reads Added after you order, with your message underneath.
  • The total they see is the items only — nothing is charged for delivery now.
  • Only the ways to pay you allowed are offered, with a line that says how this order is paid.
  • After ordering, the order confirmation and their Track Order page say the shop will add the delivery charge and send the final bill.

Add the delivery charge to an order

Orders waiting for you carry an amber Add delivery charge tag in your Orders list, and the quick filter Delivery charge to add shows only those. Your dashboard notifications tell you when a new one arrives.

1

Open the order

The amber card Add the delivery charge sits at the top of the order.

2

Type the charge

Type the amount in rupees, or tap Free delivery. Before you save, the card shows the new order total and what the customer will pay — worked out by the same server that saves it.

3

Save delivery charge

The order total, the cash to collect on delivery and the invoice update at once. If you create invoices automatically, the invoice is made now — with the final amount — instead of when the order arrived.

Example · Sharma Furniture, Pune

Priya orders a sofa for ₹12,000 and chooses cash on delivery. Her address is 18 km away, so Mr Sharma adds ₹600.

Priya's final bill

Sofa
₹12,000
Delivery charge (added by the shop)
₹600
Total — paid when the sofa arrives
₹12,600
If Priya had paid ₹12,000 online at checkout, her bill link would ask only for the ₹600.

Send the final bill

Once the charge is saved, the same card offers three ways to send it:

  • Send bill on WhatsApp — from your business WhatsApp number (when it is connected in WhatsApp). If the customer wrote to you in the last 24 hours, the bill goes as a message, with the invoice PDF when there is one. Otherwise WhatsApp only allows an approved message layout — switch on the automation Final bill — delivery charge added once, and the bill goes through it.
  • Open WhatsApp — opens WhatsApp on your own phone with the bill already written. You just press send.
  • Copy bill link — paste it into an SMS, Instagram or anywhere else.

Switch on Final bill — delivery charge added in WhatsApp → Settings → Automations (give it the ready-made “Final bill” layout from the library) and the bill goes out by itself the moment you save the charge.

The card then keeps score: Bill sent, Customer confirmed the bill (cash on delivery), and Paid in full or what is still to pay.

  • Your shop's name, the delivery charge you added, the items and the total.
  • Cash on delivery: a Confirm order — pay on delivery button. When they tap it, your order shows Customer confirmed the bill, so you can send the order knowing they agreed to the charge. They can still pay online from the same page if they prefer.
  • Pay after confirmation: the amount to pay, with your payment gateways and your UPI QR.
  • Items already paid online: only the delivery charge is asked for. Paying it marks the order fully paid; the first payment stays on the order for refunds.

The money goes straight to your own payment gateway or UPI account, exactly like a payment link.

Questions

The customer paid the delivery charge to the courier in cash. What do I do?

For an order whose items were paid online, tap Delivery charge received in cash / UPI on the delivery-charge card. For a cash-on-delivery order, mark it paid as you always do when the cash arrives.

Can I change the delivery charge after I saved it?

Yes — tap Change charge while the order is pending, confirmed or packed, then send the bill again. Once it has shipped, the charge can no longer change. A paid order can never go below what the customer already paid.

Can I ship the order before I add the charge?

No — booking a courier, giving it to a delivery boy, and marking it shipped or delivered all wait until the charge is in, because the courier or delivery boy would be told to collect the wrong amount. Packing it is fine. If there is no delivery charge, tap Free delivery — that counts as adding it.

Can I mark the order paid before I add the charge?

No — until you add the delivery charge the total is not final, so Mark paid, Mark fully received and payment links all wait. You can still record a part payment you received. Add the charge first; everything works as usual after that.

What if the customer does not reply?

Nothing happens on its own — the order is never cancelled automatically. Call or message them, or cancel the order yourself when you decide to.

Is there a fee on the delivery charge?

No. Any fee on your sales is worked out on the items only, never on the delivery charge.
