Add-on suggestions show customers items that go well together — naan with paneer, a drink with a burger, a cover with a phone. They appear right after a customer adds something, on product pages, in the cart and at checkout, so more orders come with one extra item. It is off until you switch it on, and you decide where it shows and what it suggests.

How it works

  • Right after adding to cart — a small card slides up: “✓ Paneer Tikka added · Goes well with…” with a few items and an Add button on each. It shows once per item (never twice for the same thing) and never on the checkout page. When the item was added from a size choice (Half / Full), the card waits until the customer closes that choice.
  • On product pages — a “Goes well with” row of items below the buy area.
  • In the cart — one row at the bottom of the cart, with items that go straight in (nothing to choose first).
  • At checkout — one card just before payment, with small add-ons only (up to ₹199 unless you change it).

Every Add button works exactly like the Add button on your product cards: stock, minimum quantities, sizes and your ordering pause all apply, and every price is checked again when the order is placed. An item with sizes says Choose and opens your size picker; a personalised item says View and opens its page. Items that are out of stock or sold by auction are never suggested.

Restaurants: a dish your kitchen is not serving right now (outside its serving time, or while you are closed) is never offered after an add or in the cart. On a product page it stays visible but greyed out, so nothing on the page jumps. When a customer switches your menu to Veg, suggestions show only dishes marked veg.

Set it up

1

Open Add-on Suggestions

Go to Dashboard → your site → Add-on Suggestions (under Marketing in the sidebar).

2

Check the preview

The Preview shows exactly what customers would see with one item — search any item to check it. Under each suggestion a small tag says why it is there: You picked it, Ordered together 12 times, Your rule: Mains → Drinks or Popular.

3

Choose where they show

Under Where they show, switch off any place you don't want them, set the price limit for checkout (leave it empty for any price) and how many items show at a time (2 to 6).

4

Switch it on and save

Turn on Show suggestions on my website and press Save changes. Your website updates by itself in a few seconds.

How suggestions are chosen

For every item, the list is filled in this order (up to 8 per item; customers see as many as you chose):

  1. Your own picks — under Your own picks, search an item, then add up to 8 items to always show with it, in your order.
  2. Items people order together — with Learn from my orders on, items that sat in the same order at least 3 times in your last 120 days. It fills in by itself as orders come in.
  3. Your category rules — for example “When someone adds from Mains, suggest from Breads and Drinks”. The categories you tap take turns, most ordered items first.
  4. Your most ordered items from other categories.
  5. To fill the row — items from your other categories, one from each in turn, lower prices first. This is what keeps the row full while your shop has few orders; the preview tags these To fill the row.

Items already in the customer's cart are never suggested again. If all your items are in one category (or none), “other categories” means every other item.

Steps 2, 4 and 5 run only while Learn from my orders is on — switch it off and only your own picks and category rules show. For a veg dish, steps 4 and 5 never offer a dish marked non-veg or egg; your own picks and rules always show exactly as you set them.

Change the words

Under Words customers see, type your own heading for each place — for example “Make it a meal” for the cart. Leave a box empty to keep the words shown in grey.

When it is not available

  • Car websites book one car at a time, and catalogue websites take enquiries instead of a cart — there is nothing to add alongside.
  • A members-only shop keeps it off: suggestions would list your items to everyone.
  • Pharmacy websites keep it off: a pharmacy does not suggest medicines to its customers.
  • If selling is switched off for your website, switch it on in Settings first.
