Place-of-Supply Automation

CGST/SGST or IGST? Decided correctly on every invoice — you never think about it.

Whether a sale attracts CGST+SGST (same state) or IGST (inter-state) depends on the place of supply — one of the most common mistakes in small-business invoicing. Here it's decided automatically: from the buyer's GSTIN when they give one, otherwise from the actual delivery pincode. Ship from Jaipur to Mumbai and the invoice shows IGST; deliver across town and it's CGST+SGST.

How it works

What you actually do, step by step — most owners finish this from a phone.

1

Nothing to configure

Your seller state comes from your GST registration; the buyer's state is worked out per order.

2

Each order is classified

B2B orders use the state encoded in the buyer's GSTIN; B2C deliveries use the delivery pincode, with the written address as backup.

3

The invoice splits the tax correctly

Same state → CGST + SGST, split down the middle. Different state → IGST. The place of supply prints on the invoice, and flows into your GSTR-1.

Why it matters for your business

One less way to get a notice

Wrong-headed CGST/SGST on an inter-state sale is a classic small-seller error that surfaces in return matching — this removes it entirely.

Pincode-accurate for B2C

Consumer orders are classified by where the goods actually go — the delivery pincode — not by whatever the customer typed in an address line.

GSTIN-accurate for B2B

When a buyer provides a GSTIN, their state of registration decides the split, exactly as the law prescribes.

Consistent everywhere

The same determination drives invoices, credit notes, e-way bills, and GSTR-1 place-of-supply columns — no document disagrees with another.

What's included

The honest, complete list — limits stated where they exist.

  • Buyer state resolved in priority order: buyer GSTIN → delivery pincode → written address
  • Pincode-to-state mapping covers all of India, including tricky enclaves like Yanam and Mahe
  • CGST/SGST split evenly for intra-state; IGST applied for inter-state
  • In-store pickup orders are always intra-state — handled automatically
  • Multi-GST entities each use their own registered state as the origin
  • Place of supply is printed on the invoice and carried into GSTR-1 export data

Common questions

Why does CGST vs IGST even matter — the customer pays the same total?
The total is the same, but the money goes to different governments — and your GSTR-1 reports it per state. Classify it wrong and your return won't match your buyer's records, which is how notices start.
What if a customer's address is unclear or the pincode is missing?
The system tries the GSTIN first, then the pincode, then reads the written address for a state name. If nothing at all can be determined, it defaults to intra-state — and you can correct the order before filing.
